What is a Visual Merchandiser?

The Visual Merchandiser is the person in charge of the visual identity of a brand within one or more stores. He/she is responsible for the layout of the products and collections inside and on the windows of one or more stores. Its objective is to stage the products in a creative way in order to seduce the customers and to optimize sales.

What is its role, its missions & its daily life?

The Visual Merchandiser job is a very operational luxury job. It is often done in relation with the sales teams in the field as well as with the customers.

When you are a Visual Merchandiser, you have to :

  • Work meticulously on the decoration and staging of products and collections within the store.
  • Carry out management tasks, establish the budget, carry out reports with the aim of analyzing the return on investment, study the number of customers who bought such and such a product, see if the collection(s) put forward are those that attract the most customers etc.
  • Manage inventory and suppliers.

What are the qualities required to become a Visual Merchandiser?

To be a Visual Merchandiser, it is essential to be creative. The degree of inventiveness may depend on the luxury brand you wish to work for. Is the luxury brand in a logic of standardization of the stores or not? That is to say, is the customer experience the same in every store and in every country in the world? If this is the case, there will be less creative freedom. The primary quality that is normally creativity will be more or less expected depending on the standardization orientation of a brand’s customer experience.

In addition, to be a good Visual Merchandiser, you need to have rigor, organization, planning and management skills.

What are the different paths within OMNES Education?
